The Don Kruse Memorial Scholarship

The Don Kruse Memorial Scholarship was formed to help College and Technical School students achieve their dreams through higher education. Administered by the Believers Center of Albuquerque, a Christian Non-Denominational Church, the scholarship was established following the death of Don Kruse in 2001. Don Kruse served on the board of directors of the Believers Center for many years. Throughout that time, he believed strongly in helping young people grow and flourish in life, and higher education was always seen as a very high priority.
Each year, one or more students are chosen from a list of applicants submitted at the church. Winners are chosen based upon academic achievement, extracurricular and school activity involvement, community service and church service. The students may use the funds to attend a public university, private university, technical or vocational school or religious school. The scholarship board, headed by David Standridge, Atty. at Law, interviews each of the applicants before the winner(s) are chosen.
The Believers Center of Albuquerque sponsors fundraisers each year to help endow the scholarship. The "Run for the Son" is a fun run/walk competition. Between 100 and 200 people usually register. The net funds received from the registrations, as well as from individual and corporate sponsors are all given to the scholarship fund. The church does not charge any other offsetting fees for the use of the facilities, property, or any other assets employed. The Believers Center has also held a golf tournament in the past to raise funds for the scholarship, and a Valentines dinner banquet. Like the Run for the Son event, all net funds received are given to the scholarship fund.
